In a Murano glassworks, the master takes the rod out of the furnace, blows, turns, and the orange mass becomes an object in under a minute. The third day's excursion then moves on to Burano, its houses painted colour by colour and its lace, still made by a few artisans. All of it with a French-speaking guide, six hours in the lagoon.
Embarkation takes place at the port of Ravenna, after two nights in Venice. The Norwegian Viva runs down the Adriatic to Dubrovnik, which Lord Byron called the pearl of the Adriatic, then Kotor, wedged between the mountains and its bay behind twenty-metre walls. The route then follows Italy: Salerno at the end of the Amalfi Coast, Civitavecchia for Rome, and fifteen hours in Livorno, enough for Florence and Pisa in the same day.
Villefranche comes next, six kilometres from Nice, then Palma de Mallorca and its Gothic cathedral. The ship docks in Barcelona at dawn on the thirteenth day. The day continues at the Torres winery, with a tasting and lunch, then at the Sagrada Familia, before one last night in the city.

Itinerary
Montreal: departure. Meet your escort at Montreal-Trudeau international airport, then take the Air Canada flight to Venice. Night on board the aircraft.
Venice, Italy. Arrival at the airport, private transfer to the hotel to drop off the luggage, then Venice at your own pace. First of two nights here.
Venice: Murano and Burano. Breakfast at the hotel, then the included six-hour excursion into the lagoon with a French-speaking guide. On Murano, a visit to a traditional glassworks and a glassblowing demonstration. On Burano, the brightly coloured houses, the lanes of the fishing village and the lace still made by a few artisans. Salerno, Italy. Arrival at 7:00 a.m., departure at 6:00 p.m. Salerno housed the first medical school of medieval Europe, and Neolithic mummy remains have been found on its territory. The city stretches along the gulf, between sea and mountains, at the southeastern end of the Amalfi Coast. (B, L, D)
Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy. Arrival at 6:45 a.m., departure at 5:00 p.m. Two thousand five hundred years of history, art and culture: the masterpieces of the Vatican, the ancient remains, the monuments and the museums. Or an espresso in a café, watching the city go by. (B, L, D)
Florence and Pisa (Livorno), Italy. Arrival at 7:00 a.m., departure at 10:00 p.m. Fifteen hours in port, enough to see both cities in one day. Florence's main attractions are all central and easily walked: Santa Croce, the Piazza del Duomo and Michelangelo's David. (B, L, D)
Nice (Villefranche), France. Arrival at 7:00 a.m., departure at 4:30 p.m., going ashore by tender. Villefranche lies six kilometres east of Nice. The old harbour and the view over the Mediterranean, the church of Saint-Michel and its eighteenth-century organ built by the Grinda brothers, the Rue Obscure beneath the town, the Lazaret cave and, for walkers, the sixteenth-century Fort du Mont Alban.
